10-4, Good Buddy

October 4, 2010 Family, Friends, Fun No Comments

Just because I am savant-like with dates doesn’t mean everyone is. So, when it was my turn to get married, I threw everyone a bone and chose dates that would be easy to remember. Greg and I eloped to Belize and tied the knot on June 7, 2008 (that’s 06/07/08 for the calendar-challenged) and I chose October 4 as the date to celebrate with our families and friends. Or in trucker speak: 10-4, good buddy!

And still, Greg forgets both dates.

While our families were certainly disappointed they weren’t invited to our actual wedding ceremony, the¬†getting married part is a very personal thing and Greg is a very private person. As is wont to happen in marriage, we compromised. I agreed to have a private wedding ceremony and he agreed to have a reception when we got back.

It has been two years since we celebrated at a friend’s lovely estate in Hillsborough, surrounded by so many people who love us — including those who wanted to make sure Greg getting married wasn’t a hoax. It was a wonderful party!

I wore a cocktail-length dress and Greg wore his suit, sans tie.

There was a lot of crazy dancing and I still can’t believe I didn’t spill red wine down the front of my dress.¬†Toward the end of the night, we wanted to assure people that we actually got married when we were in Belize. That we had, in fact, taken the plunge.

Yessiree! We did!

Oh, and just in case you’re wondering… my handle — ever since I was a small kid playing with the CB radio in my grandpa’s pickup — is Ten Speed & Brown Shoes. Can’t you just picture a miniature version of me yelling to my sister, “Breaker! Breaker! This is Ten Speed & Brown Shoes. What’s your 10-20?”

And with that, 10-4 good buddy. Over and out!
