I’m hip. I’m cool.

I went to the gym yesterday, wearing a pair of shorts that I’ve been told look great on me. They’re short-ish and they show off my legs. Admittedly, I had to talk myself into going to the gym. I’ve been fighting a cold. It’s cold and rainy outside. I’m burnt out. Phooey!

But carbs call my name. Chocolate whispers to me each evening. Alas, I vow to do at least 45 minutes of cardio every day in addition to whatever strength training I do at home.

So, my shorts and I walk into the gym with the intent of heading to the Group Exercise room for a little personal Spinning session. I’ve got my playlist figured out and I’m actually starting to look forward to it, now that I’m there.

I walk in.
I get my bike set up: J / 2.5 / 8.
I get my iPod ready to go: Owl City mix

I wore my Fit Flop Slippers to the gym.

I am not one of those girls who wears Ugg boots with whatever pants they happened to be wearing to whatever function they’re at and pull them off as this season’s new look. With the shorts I was wearing, the shoes I was wearing looked like SLIPPERS.

Because, let’s face it, they are.

How many people saw me? Now that I’m unemployed, I try to hit the gym at unpopular times. Even so, I don’t want to look like That Girl Who Wore Her Slippers To The Gym.

As I was pondering the fear calories I’d burned with today’s faux pas, I focused on the positives: Step 1 is getting yourself to the gym. I certainly didn’t get any unwanted advances that sometimes take place in the sauna or on the running trails. My feet were certainly warm.

I can’t drive in my Spinning shoes, so I had to put the slippers back on to exit the gym. I wore them with a little bit of panache, hoping that I’d burned enough calories to at least be That Girl walking out of the gym with a little attitude.
